VHP Yajna in Qutab Minar Complex -An Act of Desecration and Illegality

AIMMM Statement, 14 November, 2000

The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) records its protest at the Archaeological Survey of India permitting the performance of a Yajna by the VHP and its associates in the Qutub Minar Complex on 13 November, 2000, as it constitutes both a sacrilege to a Masjid and a violation of the Law of the land.

The VHP may be motivated to keep its donors satisfied by opening new fronts in its battle against the Muslim community but there is no reason for the ASI to play the role of its collaborator.

The AIMMM has been protesting in the past at the 'puja' being performed at a corner of the outer wall of the Quwwatul-Islam Masjid in the complex. But a full-fledged Yajna is a development fraught with serious consequences.

The AIMMM cautions the Government of India that the Muslim Indians will not tolerate the beginning of another Ayodhya."
