Resolution and Recommendations (Summary)

The Conference:

1. Welcomes the establishment of Urdu Akademi in Tamilnadu and recommends establishment of Urdu Akademi in other States, particularly in Jharkhand, Uttaranchal and Chhattisgarh.

2. Emphasizes the need for increase in grants for Urdu Academies and their timely release.

3. Calls upon the Union Government to sanction grants, at least upto 50% of the expenditure, on national and international programmes for promotion of Urdu education and composite culture.

4. Recommends establishment of Urdu-medium primary and secondary schools in adequate numbers, participation of Urdu Akademi in National Literacy Mission for the removal of illiteracy in Urdu-speaking people.

5. Calls for participation of Urdu Akademi in Information Technology Missions.

6. Recommends proper census of Urdu-speaking population during Census 2001.
