Withdraw False Cases, Institute Judicial Inquiry, Pay Damages & Formule Long-term Modus Vivendi, Insaf Morcha Statement, 21 April, 2000

"The Insaf Morcha condemns the barbaric police action against the Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), on 9 April, 2000 and unequivocally. supports the just and reasonable demand of the Jamia Millia Islamia students for the unconditional withdrawal of the false cases filed by the Delhi Police against the students and for due compensation to them for the physical injury and the humiliation suffered by them in the police assault.

The Insaf Morcha calls upon the Jamia authorities to assess the damage to its property in the course of the police action, to file an FIR against the Delhi police and claim damages from the Delhi Police.

The Insaf Morcha requests the Central Government immediately to institute a judicial inquiry into the incident whose terms of reference should include the formulation of a modus vivendi between the JMI and the Delhi Police to regulate police entry into the campus and calls upon the Police Commissioner of Delhi to suspend and prosecute the police personnel involved in the unprovoked action which was loaded with communal overtones.

The Insaf Morcha also appeals to the students of the JMI to suspend their agitation and press their legitimate demands through the Jamia authorities, political parties and sympathetic national organisations and restore normalcy on the campus, so that the academic year is not lost. "
