For some, they are literally holy cows. For others, they are (moving) road-dividers and speed-breakers. They lie in repose right on the middle of the road while motorists, quite used to having them around, manoeuvre their vehicles through the space available on the road.

The cattle of Delhi's roads have become a commuter's nightmare. Though the civic authorities claim that the number of stray cattle has come down appreciably, there are still enough on the Capital's roads to add chaos to the confusion caused by the traffic .!..

The reason so many cows wander on the roads could be attributed to the sizable number of dairies which exist in the city. Dairy owners, reportedly, let the cattle free to feed. MCD commissioner V.K. Duggal says that unless dairies are relocated on the peripheries of the city the problem cannot be eradicated completely. "We ... impounded around 17,000 stray cattle in the past few months.
