.. It is easy for people in affluence or in positions of influence to look askance at the behaviour of the protesting Members of Parliament. what they fail to realise is that such demonstrations stem from bitterness for having been neglected so long and so callously. The agitating members apprehend that the proposed measure would further reduce their representation in Parliament. Among them, literacy is abysmally low and it would be next to impossible for women from these sections of society to compete at the hustings with ... better educated and more articulate and forthcoming women of other communities and higher castes.
It is a pity that political leaders in this country are unable to imagine the plight of their less fortunate brothers and sisters (and) of advance technical arguments in order to reject the just and over-denied claim. The country should take note of the prevailing dissatisfaction among the disadvantaged sections ... Aspirations once aroused cannot be suppressed by trotting cut technical pleas.
A compromise (may) be struck between the Treasury Benches and the Yadavasr ... by sacrificing Muslims on callously technical plea that the ... Constitution does not permit reservation on religious grounds. It would be a sad say for the country if the powers that be shut their eyes to the plight of the Muslim community simply because it is not well organised.
... Is it not queer that (the) Constitution which is a bulwark of minorities' rights should be utilised for denying those very rights?
