My letter of 23 September 1998 regarding your reported intervention in the administration of the Punjab Wakf Board and of the Wakf properties under its control remains unreplied.
I am now informed that Mr. Feroz Khan, Administrator of the Board has resigned. His resignation has been accepted and a new Administrator has been appointed. I would be grateful to know the circumstances in which Mr. Khan was compelled to quit.
I am told that one of the reasons was his total disagreement on the appointment of one Mr. M.R. Farooq as CEO of the Board against the advice of the Selection Committee and the disapproval of the Administrator who had conducted an inquiry against Mr. Farooq on charges of corruption and wealth beyond his known sources.
All this has caused much concern and anxiety in the Muslim community. I request you not to appoint Mr. Farooq as CEO and ask the CBI to hold an inquiry into his assets. I once again request you not to permit any misuse or waste or under-utilisation of the Wakf property under the Punjab Wakf Board or elsewhere.
