Supreme Court Order On Tombs of Ghalib and Zauq

The operative part of the Report (of the ASI-MCD Team on Zauq's Tomb is as "There are no Architectural or Town Planning norms/standard for the area requirement for a grave or a monument. Therefore, the area of the grave for the monument of another eminent and contemporary post Mirza Ghalib was considered as a guide.

Keeping in view (i) the high density of habitation in  the locality and (ii) the area of Mirża Ghalib's Mazar, the team has come to the conclusion that approximately an area measuring 25m x 21.5m (537 sqm) is required for proposed retrieval/construction of the grave of poet Zauq. The Archaeological Survey of India is of the opinion that keeping in view the prevailing exigencies of the situation, this is the minimum requirement of the area for construction and maintenance of a monument of national importance.

A tentative list of occupants of houses/shops requiring relocation/rehabilitation is attached as Annexure-B'. The list has been prepared on the basis of  enquiries at the spot and gives an approximate idea of the extent of demolition and subsequent rehabilitation required.
