Shahabuddin's Proposal

I compliment you on your enlightening analysis in your editorial "Electoral Strategy for Indian Muslims" in your esteemed journal's issue of 16 January, 1998.

While agreeing with you that blind support to anyone party throughout the country should be ruled out, I feel that for the same reason, support to anyone party even within the same State, particularly large States, should be ruled out.

So finally, the secular voters have to decide at the Constituency level, if more than one candidates are fielded by secular parties/formation, to vote for the strongest among them, irrespective of religion, caste or party label, who can defeat the candidate fielded by the BJP or its allies. This would indeed be in the best interest of both the country and the community.

If there is a one-to-one fight between the BJP and any secular party/front in any Constituency, the secular voter faces no problem. What needs to be emphasized is that every vote matters and, therefore, the secular voter must cast his vote. United and massive voting for one secular candidate in every Constituency can alone stop the Hindutva Rath from reaching Delhi.
