Apropos Shri Prakash Nanda's plea to the Muslims not to shun the BJP (TOI, 18 Feb) he has based himself on wrong assumptions. Muslims are not playing a 'passive role as a vote bank of some select parties'. The facts are otherwise. In different States and sometimes in different Constituencies of the same State, the Muslims are voting for different secular parties or formations Some of them are also active politically in the ranks of different political parties but also universally they reject the secular credentials of the BJP as they view it as a majoritarian, communal party committed to the concept of Hindu Rashtravad and to the ultimate objective of the assimilation of religious and cultural minorities within the Hindu fold.
So, Mr. Nanda's plea is not likely to fall on receptive ears.
