Your editorial "Nothing Sacred about it" (3 June, 2000) rationalises slaughter of cow and other related animals in the name of export. But modernisation of the slaughter process and of means of transit may add to costs and make our leather uncompetitive! I wonder whether the issue is slaughter per se or the manner of slaughter and of transportation.
