I have just returned from a visit to Faizabad and Ayodhya.
I must report to you that the Muslim community is deeply apprehensive about the VHP/Bajrang Dal plans for installing some stone pillars over the existing concrete platform, which is to serve as a base for the proposed Ram Janambhoomi Mandir.
They have demanded removal of barricades and unrestrained access to the makeshift Mandir constructed on the debris of the Babari Masjid and threatened to launch mass agitation if their demand is not conceded. Since the Central Government is the statutory custodian of the acquired/disputed land, you have to take the decision. However, the silence of your government is deafening and ominous.
The people apprehend that some pillars can be brought to the concrete platform and mounted within a matter of hours if there is no restraint. This would be in blatant violation of the Orders of the Supreme Court.
I am writing this to caution you against their plans and to request you to instruct the Ministry of Home Affairs and the State Government to nip the mischief in the bud and detain all those who are inciting the people to violate the law.
I entrust you that on the eve of the sixth anniversary of the Demolition, the peace of Ayodhya should not be permitted to be disturbed and the wounds of 6 December, 1992, reopened.
I request your personal and urgent intervention.
