Thank you for your letter No.921/N/CMP/98 dated 17.5.1998 regarding the status of Urdu as the second official language of Andhra Pradesh. Since the Act of 1996 was subject to a notification by the State Government, I would be grateful to be informed of the date of notification and whether, subsequent to such notification any specific instructions or guidelines have been issued to the District Collectors of the eight districts named therein in respect of the specific purposes for which Urdu shall be used.

I would also request you that you may kindly consider that even in the other districts of A.P., if a sub- district or taluka or tehsil or even a block or a panchayat or a municipal area has more than 10 per cent Urdu-speaking population the same facilities should be available for the Urdu speaking population of those areas.
