Annual Report of Salar Jung Museum Board, 1993-94

 

 

The Salar Jung Museum and Library is managed 1. by the Salar Jung Museum Board Sri Krishan Kant, H.E. the Governor of Andhra Pradesh is Ex-officio Chairman. The following are the members of the Board.

Activities

Birthday Celebrations of Salar Jung-III: The 107th Birthday Celebrations of Salar Jung-III were inaugurated by Nawab Abbas Yar Jung, Member, Salar Jung Muscum Board and observed for a week from 7th to 13th April, 1993 including the following-

1.         A Catalogue of Arabic Manuscripts Vol. VII was released.

2.         A temporary Exhibition on "Asian Ivory in Art" was inaugurated.

3.         Salar Jung Memorial Lecture (1993) on "Architecture of Nawabs of Oudh" was delivered by Shri M.C. Joshi, Director General (Retd.), Archaeological Survey of India.

4.         Following Lectures were also organized.

i) "Museum as an Instrument of Education" by Prof. Radha Krishna Sarma.

ii) Salar Jung-III and his Times" by Mr. Hasnuddin Ahmed.

iii) "Rock-cut Monuments of Western India" by Prof. S. Nagaraju

 

1.        Cultural Programmes like Mushaira, Sham-e-Ghazal were organized. Best Workers Awards were distributed.

The 108th Birthday Celebrations of Salar Jung-III (1994) were observed from 27th March, 1994 to 2nd April, 1994. It was inaugurated by Shri Krishan Kant, the Governor of A.P. On this occasion a special exhibition on "The Salar Jungs - Founders of the Museum" was arranged.

Two Salar Jung Memorial Lectures were delivered: i) "Life and Times of Nizams and Salar Jungs" by Prof. Radha Krishna Sarma.

ii) "The Nizam's Contributions to the Art and Culture of Andhra" by Acharya Tirumala Ramachandra.

A two-day seminar on the theme "The Salar Jung Museum-its Cultural Content" was held in which 9- Scholars presented papers.

Museum Week: The Museum Week was observed from 8th to 14th January, 1994. A special exhibition on 'Children's Art' was the highlight in which paintings and sketches drawn by physically and mentally handicapped children were displayed.

The Museum organized a 7-lectures series on the "Concept, Policy and Planning of Museums in India"

Mobile Exhibition: A Mobile Exhibition on "Monuments of Hyderabad" covered 72-educational institutions.

Library: During the period 308 books purchased and 166 books were received as gratis.

 Conservation of Art Object: During the period 1534 art objects and 34 miniature paintings were chemically treated 5 oil paintings were restored.

Gift of Manuscript: A rare and precious Quran Sharif, finely decorated with Persian translation by Qutub Shahi presented to the Museum by Sri Anurag Sharma, Deputy Calligrapher was recently (27th December, 1993) Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad who recovered it from a search. This is a most valuable Urdu MSS with eight excellent miniatures and belongs to Qutub Shahi period (17th Century A.D.).
