Restoration of Manek Burj in Ahmedabad

Manek Burj, believed to be the site where Sultan Ahmed Shah laid the city's foundation about 600 years ago, will witness a strange paradox. While a part of this historic monument is being demolished for the widening of Ellisbridge, the rest will be salvaged by removing the sand under which it has long been buried. It will then be renovated and developed as a heritage site. (Source: Sachin Sharma in The Indian Express, 9 February, 2000)
