Recognition of Urdu as Official Language

Letter of Thanks to Delhi C.M., 10 April, 2000

Please accept my sincere thanks and cordial felicitations on the passage of the Bill giving the status of Second Official Language to Urdu and Punjabi.

The Rules should be framed at the earliest so that the Bill may be implemented.

I would suggest that the Department of Official Language and not the Urdu or the Punjab Akademis should be entrusted with the implementation of the Bill. The Akademis should monitor the implementation and act as watch-dogs just as Anjuman Taraqqi-e-Urdu Hind, Delhi.   - Syed Shahabuddin
