RSS: K.S. Sudarshan, Jt. General Secretary's Views on Hindutva Politics

... The BJP and the Shiv Sena are the only political parties that champion Hindutva.

Even between the two the Shiv Sena's Hindutva has an emotional basis. The Sena has not done much to develop it as a well-though-out ideology.

.. (Akali Dal has) not frankly stated that Sikhs are an integral part of the Hindu society. This party still lacks the political courage to clearly accept this truth.

The Congress ... always tries to save itself from the Hindus. It was only Mahatma Gandhi who clearly said he was an uncompromising Sanatanist Hindu ... All other Congress leaders chased the mirage of Muslim appeasement. They were even afraid of calling themselves Hindus. ...

Finally ... non-stop Muslim appeasement ... led to accepting a demand for the Partition ... and creation of a separate Pakistan. Even after the creation of Pakistan the appeasement of Muslims and neglect of Hindus did not top.

Leadership went to Nehru, who said he was a Hindu by accident of birth. From this time onwards the Congress began to express itself against the Hindus ...

This opposition is still there, and so in no way can the Congress be called an advocate of Hindutva ..                                                                 (Source: The Organiser, 21 June, 1998)
