We bring to your notice the threat issued by Pratap Chander Sarangi, convenor, State Bajrang Dal, Orissa, in which he has said, "If statements against the Bajrang Dal do not stop forthwith, the consequences will be dangerous and disastrous ... My organisation will not be responsible for these "consequences". This open criminal threat to democratic institutions and religious minorities violates the provisions of the law.

This is a threat meant to intimidate and silence by a show of force all investigations and social responses to the brutal slaying last week: of the Catholic priest, Father Arul Doss and before him, of the Muslim trader, Sheikh Rehman, in the Mayurbhanj area of Orissa.

This threat is a part of a three-point strategy to divert attention from the reign of terror that has been let loose against the minorities in the tribal areas ranging from  Orissa to Gujarat ...

The strategy of the Sangh Parivar is clear.

Manufacture half-truths and lies to divide communities and foist a minority sectarian point of view of its own: secondly, to demonise religious and cultural groups and their clergy; and lastly, to give a clean chit to the killers and the communal and fascist ideology that fuels their murderous activities ...

... The silence of the Prime Minister and important functionaries of his party and the Government, we fear, act as an encouragement to these forces.

We expect the Prime Minister to direct his Home Minister and the CBI to register criminal cases against Mr. Sarangi (and) to direct the CBI to ensure that it arrests Dara Singh.
