Under the sajha custom every Jat family decrees bachelorhood for some boys, but makes due provision for their sex life and the need for an emotional anchor - in the form of their bhabhis (sisters-in-laws). The Fheds (unmarried sons) live with their married brothers and share their wives along with home and hearth. In fact, the first question posed by a boy's father to the prospective bride's father is: "Ladki bhaiyon mein nib jayegi?" (can the girl adjust with the brothers?) The allusion being whether she can co-habit with her husband's unwed brothers. The query, which would evoke outrage in virtuous India which considers it blasphemous for a woman even to think about a man other than her husband, sets the tone for marital discussions among Jat families here ...
