Resolution on Deportation of Bangladeshis
.. The Determination of Illegal Migrants Tribunal Act, 1983 ... provided a procedure to determine the illegal immigrants by an independent tribunal before departing any person from the country.
The Act provides protection against the high handedness of the executive authorities and ensures rule of law. Recently certain communal forces have again begun a tirade against alleged Bangladeshis and demanded immediate deportation ... particularly (those) who belong to minority community. In response to that the Government came out with a statement that it is proposing to repeal the aforesaid Determination of Illegal Migrants Tribunal Act, 1983.
The Conference strongly opposes any move to repeal or amend the said Act and resolves that before deporting any person from the country, a procedure, established by due process of law must be adopted. (Source: The Human Rights Today, Autumn 1999)
