The Government of Maharashtra had earlier withdrawn all pending criminal cases against the Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray. Now it has decided to withdraw all criminal cases against "Saamna", the SS organ. It has also decided to withdraw criminal cases against the Karsevaks for the demolition of the Babari Masjid.

One wonders whether the State is discarding the rule of law and adopting the law of the jungle.

I request you that, in the larger interest of the country, you should protect the rule of law and advise all State Governments that criminal acts, directed against one social group or another should be decided through the judicial process and not given up for political reasons.
