The Muslim attitude is one of ridiculing and repulsing changes at the inception. But once changes overwhelm the society, they are accepted willy nilly without even so much as necessary modifications in tune with religious and cultural ethos.

Development and progress have their own dynamics and pace. In a country such as India changes have to fight their way through a thousand mutinies. But ultimately they prevail. Those who embrace them at the first knock become its standard bearers ...

Those who fought with changes, succumbed to its assault at the end only to rue their ruinous myopia ...Changes are never dictated by a people's whims and fancies. When they occur, they engulf one and all. Preserving your identity would need taking a progressive outlook. It's time Muslims woke up to the challenges of changing times.

The will have to do a balancing act: Educating their women without necessarily abandoning purdha, stick to Halals but ensure clean, hygienic abattoirs; keep the great call of faith from minarets alive but go easy on its decibel level and adopt modern technology in every possible sphere of their life and activity. Did not the Jews progress with their kosher and Sabbaths? It's ridiculous to believe that everyone in this big world is after your identity!
