May I draw your attention to the proposal of the British Government to increase the recruitment in the police force of Blacks and Asians - who constitute large ethnic minorities in the UK upto a national target of 7% i.e. in proportion to their population. To achieve this target, it is also proposed to have minorities quotas in overwhelmingly white areas.

The reason cited is improvement of race relations and end the racist police culture. In a plural society like ours, this should serve as an example. So that the police force not only is but is seen as a neutral force and, in critical situation, commands the confidence of all social groups in the operational area.

As it is, the religious and even some linguistic minorities are under-represented in the central paramilitary forces. I request you to introduce a quota system in recruitment of personnel in the CPMF's so that. over a period of time, the CPMF's reflect the social demography of our country.
