"The Babari Masjid Movement Coordination Committee (BMMCC) has noted the statement by Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, MP, and then by Kum. Uma Bharati, MP that they (or the BJP or any Hindu organization, including the VHP, the Bajrang Dal and the RSS) do not contemplate demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya. This is welcome as far as it goes but Atalji wants to shift it and Umaji perhaps wishes to keep it as a Mandir!
However, the BMMCC is yet to hear even a word of condemnation, by either of them or by the BJP or by any Hindu organisation, of the Kar Sevaks who stormed the Masjid planted their flag on it and in a fit of hysterical rage tried to pull it down.
Secondly the VHP is yet to revise its site-plan of the proposed Ram Janambhoomi Mandir which incorporates the site of the Masjid as well as the site of 2 or 3 existing temples. Are those temples also proposed to be shifted?
Thirdly, according to the Consensus of the Ulema and the Muftis of India dated 4 December, 1990, a mosque-site is sacrosanct and, therefore, a mosque cannot be shifted to another site.
Fourthly, the shifting is only an euphemism for demolition as the Masjid, which is largely constructed of brick, stone and mortar, cannot be dismantled, transported to another site and re-assembled, even if there was no theological constraint.
Fifthly, since 23 December, 1949, when the idols of Ram Lalla were unlawfully and surreptitiously installed in the Masjid, Muslims have been peacefully struggling for the restoration of the Masjid and not just for the protection of the structure.
If the BJP and its front bodies are indeed sincere about not hurting the sentiments of the Muslim community, as Umaji claims, they should persuade those who are in unlawful possession of the Masjid to vacate it and restore it to the Muslim community as well as call upon the VHP to revise the site-plan.
The BMMCC assures them that the Muslim community would respond generously and cooperate with them in constructing the proposed Ram Janambhoomi Mandir on an adjacent site, after the site-plan is suitably revised."
