The assurance given by L.K. Advani about 'stern action' against those found guilty of instigating attacks on Christians will carry conviction only when the strident propaganda against the community by the BJP's own fraternal outfits comes to an end. There is little doubt that the intense, and quite unprecedented, campaign conducted by these organisations for a year or so has created an atmosphere of suspicion and hate, leading to the acts of intimidation, assault and murder. Unless they are compelled to put an end to their vicious propaganda, no positive results can be expected. It is a matter of record that the victimisation of the Christians has gone up markedly since the BJP's assumption of power ... The 'coincidence could not have been accidental.

It is common knowledge that the situation is particularly grim in Gujarat where the Home Minister's party enjoys a majority. If the Centre is serious about restoring confidence among the Christians and other minorities, Gujarat is the state on which it should  concentrate ...

.. It is too simplistic to dismiss the ... assaults, especially in northern India, as non-communal in nature ... It is even worse to accuse those expressing concern of 'minorityism', as Advani has done, for it suggests that they are exaggerating these incidents to garner votes. By the same token, the BJP is guilty of an offence worse than 'majorityism', for by deliberately trying to play down these incidents, it is in effect turning a blind eye towards those responsible for the crimes ...
