The Babari Masjid Movement Co-ordination Committee (BMMCC) is fully aware of the continuing exortion by some important people to obtain 'Fatwas' from foreign Ulema in favour of a demolition on shift of the Babari Masjid. In this context, considerable concern has been caused in the Muslim community by Mr. Adnan Khashoggi, during his recent visit (between 26 and 30 January, 1991) to Delhi, meeting Shri Vishnu Hari Dalmia, the Working President of the VHP and Mr. Ahmad Bukhari, Vice-President of the All India Babari Masjid Action Committee (AIBMAC), Mr. Nanaji Deshmukh and J.K. Jain of the BJP, apart from his guru Shri Chandraswami. Shri Chandraswami, it may be recalled, has launched a campaign for the construction of a Ram Mandir in Ayodhya at the very site of the Babari Masjid and earlier had several meetings with Mr. S.S. Owaisi, the President of the AIBMAC. According to Mr. K.N. Agarwal, the associate of Shri Chandraswami, Mr. Khashoggi told the Prime Minister that he would use his West Asian Connection' to solve the Ayodhya issue and the Prime Minister having assured him in reply that he may, if need be, officially call him and solicit his assistance. Mr. Agarwal also referred to fruitful talks with AIBMAC (Indian Express, 1, February, 1991).
Mr. Khashoggi's role, it any, in Shri Chandraswami's project is a matter of conjecture but he is closely associated with eminent personalities and commands much influence in high places in Saudi Arabia.
The BMMCC, therefore, calls upon the AIBMAC to place before the people the purpose of its contacts with Shri Chandraswami and Mr. Khashoggi and details of proposals under consideration.
The BMMCC also demands that the Government clarify whether the visit of Mr. Khashoggi had anything to do with the Babari Masjid dispute of whether his good offices are to be sought in any manner at any stage for resolving the dispute.
The BMMCC would like to inform the Government and the people that no foreign Fatwa can overrule the Consensus of the Indian Ulema, as embodied in the Resolution of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board adopted in New Delhi on 4 December, 1991, that a mosque can neither be demolished nor shifted from its site.
