It is the Congress party which has concluded that the DMK is guilty on the basis of an interim report. If an interim report is conclusive proof, then why is the report of the Thakkar Commission which inquired into the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi being ignored ... If the LTTE was not anti-national during the time of Indira Gandhi, MGR and Rajiv Gandhi, and was deserving of support, weapons, ammunition, training, facilities and 30 camps in Tamil Nadu even during the height of the conflict with the IPKF, how can it be said that the DMK "gave tacit support"? How can the terrorist activities of the LTTE, whose militants were given all and every kind of support by the Congress in government, become a basis to demand the ouster of the DMK from the United Front? There were camps in Dehra Dun and RK Puram in Delhi for training and equipping the LTTE members. The RDX they used came from what was issued to the Indian Army. So who are the guilty? Who are the real culprits?
That under DMK rule, Tamil Nadu became a haven for the LTTE is wrong and totally false propaganda by the Congress ... The Jain Commission has indicted every Tamil in Tamil Nadu when it says: "The assassination of Rajiv Gandhi would not have been possible without the
deep nexus of LTTE operatives with the Tamils of Tamil Nadu ... " It is not the DMK but all the people of Tamil Nadu who are the accused ... It is strange to accuse a whole people or a whole party of a plot to kill any one.
This is outrageous ... This is a deliberate plot by the Congress to defame and discredit the DMK. It is unjust and inhuman and against all tenets of law and political conduct. Nobody with a conscience will accept or support such outrageous slander.
All the Tamils of Tamil Nadu who have been "indicted" will respond magnificently to this challenge. The falsehoods of the Congress will create a surge of sympathy among the people for the DMK. (Source: The Times of India, 22 November, 1997)
