The second head of the RSS, Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar, identified three "enemies" of the Hindu nation - Muslims, Christians and communists. He made it crystal clear that Christian gentlemen, especially the missionaries, were out to demolish the religious and social fabric of our life ... Golwalkar noted in his Bunch of Thoughts that wherever the followers of Jesus Christ went they proved to be not blood- givers, but blood-suckers. And the disciples of Christ helped to annihilate natives wherever they went, be it America, Australia or Africa.
In fact, he argued in another book, We, Our Nationhood Defined, that as long as the Muslims and the Christians failed to abandon their own religion and culture they cannot but be only foreigners in this country and if they stayed here without losing their "separate existence" they might be treated as "energies", at best as "idiots." His argument tilts more favourably towards treating all Christians as "hostiles" who are agents of the international movement for the spread of Christianity.
... What the RSS gurus have been preaching for nearly 75 years, it has helped to produce the mindset in the cadre. And perhaps it is no coincidence that the establishment of the Vajpayee Government at the Centre has led to an explosion of anti-Christian literature pamphlets, handbills, even posters. Of course, some of this inflammatory matter has been printed under the masthead of various little known organisations, some directly linked to the RSS organisations and others whose identity and pedigree need to be investigated. Whatever the view that emerges, the RSS and its organisations cannot absolve themselves of the charge that they have helped to create an atmosphere conducive to assaults on Christians ...
It should not be difficult for any government to establish the identity of those bchind this foul hate-literature. But instead, it seems, the RSS, the BJP, the VHP and the. Bajrang Dal have decided jointly that the ISI be blamed for the spate of attacks on the Christians and their institutions ... The earlier stance articulated by both Advani, Union Home Minister, and Vajpayee that the incidents were plain cases of infringement of the law and were being "blown out of proportion" by some Christian organisations and 'pseudo-secular' parties has been given up, at least temporarily ...
The RSS and its many organisations may continue to protest, a bit too loudly, that they have no hand in the violence being perpetrated against the Christians and their institutions, but there are enough hard facts available, in black and white, to establish that they have created a hate Christian mindset in their cadre ... ... As John Dayal of the All-India Christian Council alleged, the "RSS controlled organisations have been carrying out blatant propaganda not only against Christians but their faith itself, questioning the very tenets of their belief, ridiculing the entire community by questioning the belief in Virgin Mary and the Resurrection of Christ."
What stands out is the fact that for 53 years since Independence and 2000 years since Christianity came to this country, the Christians have lived in peace with fellow countrymen. Now the attacks on the Christians, have coincided with the BJP rule at the Centre. That fact alone should make the government sit up and take note. (Source: The Hindu, 25 June, 2000)
