There are several indicators of restlessness within the Sangh Parivar. No less a person than the new RSS chief, K.S. Sudarshan, has sounded a battle cry against the Government's economic policies ... .

Both the Kalyan Singh ouster and the Khurana episode have demonstrated that Mr. Vajpayee is very much in control. But the problem of differences between the RSS and the BJP on economic policies will not go away easily ... But the Vajpayee Government is safe. After all, who can cast a shadow over the Kargil hero? Who can dare point an accusing finger at the hardcore nationalist ....

But what has unnerved some in the BJP is the harsh fact that it is the Sangh Parivar outfits which have dared all this. But the problem is, at present they cannot afford to pull down the Government ...

What does (Vajpayee) do about the growing incidents of attacks on Christians? How can he tame The Organiser, RSS mouthpiece, which has been regularly spewing poison against Christians? How does he prevent the VHP from holding press conferences to lash out at Christian missionaries ... What can he do to prevent Christians from feeling more and more insecure? ... Allegations have been made directly and through innuendoes that Christian missions in this country get a lot of money from abroad ... .

The Minorities Commission has also played into the Government's hands by trying to portray the various attacks on Christians as local law and order incidents ...

The Christian Council has charged that the Prime Minister's call for a national debate on conversions ... was an open incitement for more violence against missionaries on grounds of involvement in activities leading to "forced conversions" ...
