Neem- Banyan 'Marriage'


 

In a unique ceremony dating back to the Vedic times, a young neem tree has been given away in marriage to a banyan tree at the Thrikkalathur Sree Ramaswamy Temple near Muvattupuzha, about 30 km from here. The banyan tree was planted in front of the temple on April 30,1990 to replace another one, said to have been 1200 years old, which got uprooted on June 27, 1989.                                                                                                              -UNI, 31 Januarv. 1998
