Taking suo moto cognizance of the overwhelming media reports relating to the shortage of school textbooks in Urdu resulting into deterioration of academic standards in the Urdu-medium schools, the Chairman addressed a letter to NCERT seeking a detailed report in the matter. The NCERT sent a reply after a reminder, while in the intervening period the Commission received some formal complaints against those responsible for the production of Urdu textbooks

The Chairman constituted an "Urdu Textbooks Committee" to examine all aspects of the problem in depth, suggest measures for its solution and co-ordinate the interaction of various bodies involved in the matter.

The Committee comprises the following: Syed Shahbaz Hussain, Prof. Arvind Kumar,Puran Chand, Dr. Hamidullah Bhat, Dr. Rizwan-ul-Haq, Makhmoor Saeedi and Sycd Rashid Husain
