The Minorities Council of India condemns the killing by terrorists of 16 members of the minority community in the Doda district of J&K on 27-28 July, 1998. This crime against humanity has been committed close on the heels of earlier diabolical acts of targetting innocent persons.
We appeal to leaders of all shades of political opinion and religious creeds in the country, especially those in J&K to give a joint call well as to the state security forces, to abide by the humanitarian laws applicable under Geneva Convention to all armed conflict situations ... Such an ethical code is also required to be practised under Manu's laws on war as well as under the basic principles of Islamic Jihad.
We also appeal to the Government of J&K to take effective measures for full protection of the life, property and honour of the minority groups in the State, to bring the culprits to book and provide adequate compensation to.
