Shahabuddin's Letter to C.M., 11 Dec., 1999

May I draw your attention to the partial demolition of the Masjid in Bajaria Chowk, Hansi on 6.12.1999 by the local leaders of the Sangh Parivar.

In 1988, the Masjid, on release to the Punjab Wakf Board, had been illegally occupied and an idol was placed there. I had personally visited the Masjid then. In the consequent legal proceeding the Masjid had been locked and the Tehsildar had been appointed as the Receiver.

It is reported that on 3 December, the local SDM lifted the lock-out and handed over the Masiid to the RSS- BJP backed Bharat Bhakti Trust. Taking advantage of physical possession they demolished part of the Masjid.

I request that the Masjid be vacated and repaired until the title is decided by a High Court.

I am sending a copy of this letter to the Administrator, Punjab Wakf Board, Ambala for appealing against the SDM's order which was ex-party.
