The National Foundation for Communal Harmony ... so far ... has assisted 1260 children.

National Integration: ... The first ten months of 1999 witnessed a decline of about 9 per cent...

Grants-in-Aid ... to undertake activities in the cause of national integration and communal harmony ... During the year 1999-2000, upto December 23, 1999, proposals of 2 NGOs and 1 University amounting to Rs.99,000 were processed ... During the financial year 1999-2000, upto December 23, 1999, proposals for conducting essay competitions from 12 States and 2 Union Territory Administration amounting to Rs.10.46 lakh were processed.

Foreigners in India: ... Over 14.53 lakh foreigners were granted Indian visae during 1998. As on December 31, 1998, a total of 1,45,382 foreigners, staying on long term visae, were registered. This does not, however, include refugees and Pak Nationals.

Citizenship: 355 foreign nationals have been granted Indian Citizenship during the year till November 30, 1999.

Foreign Contribution Regulation Act: During the year till October 30, 1999, 1115 NGOs have been granted registration and 390 were granted prior permission to receive foreign contribution during this period.

"Shri L.K. Advani, Minister of Home Affairs' call on the Muslim Indians to "reply to Pakistan's call for Jehad against India". is totally misconceived and uncalled for and, constitutes an indirect assault on the integrity, loyalty and dignity of the community.

It is the duty of all citizens to defend the country against any foreign aggression, by Pakistan or any other State, labelled as 'Jehad' or otherwise. And the Muslim Indians have, through the ages, performed this sacred duty and will continue to do so. As a community, the Muslim Indians will ever stand shoulder to shoulder with other Indians in the defence of the country.

But the mindset, as displayed by Shri Advani, identities the Muslim Indians with Pakistanis and looks upon them as traitors and Pakistan's fifth columnists.

All secular forces must condemn the insinuation by Shri Advani and call upon him to render unconditiona apology to the community he has tried to defame.

My reply to Shri Advani, and to his colleague Shri Fernandes, would be: Open the doors of the Armed Forces and the Central Paramilitary Forces to the Muslim Indians and give them an opportunity to how their valour and patriotism."
