Here, tourists can hop off the bus ... and walk up to Bara Imambara, Room i Darwaza, Chhota Imambara, Clock Tower, Qaiserbagh Palace complex and even the Picture Gallery ... to explore and appreciate the beauty of these architectural marvels at their own pace. Twenty unprotected monuments near the tomb of Jamali-Kamali, a stone's throw away from the Qutub Minar, have been saved from total ruin because of the initiative of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) ... There are nearly 130 monuments within a 200-acre radius in the area. Only 30 of these have been declared protected.
The 20 monuments, which have now been preserved from vandalism and nature ... had last found mention in a listing made by Zafar Hasan in 1910. INTACH, which has undertaken the process of listing all the monuments in Delhi, found these edifices which date back to the 13th century, in the DDA park surrounding Jamali-Kamali's tomb ... There were no mappings ... the landmarks had changed ... The structures have been identified as guard houses, tombs, baradari enclosures, wall mosques and horse stables. (They) have been cleared and cracks and other damages repaired with the help of experts. The Delhi Tourism department had sanctioned Rs.20 lakh for the project. The research and expertise was provided by INTACH ... INTACH is hoping to hand over the maintenance of the 20 monuments to the archaeological department of Delhi ...
