Kuldip Nayar on AIADMK's Stand

One may not agree with all that AIADMK leader Jayalalitha is doing. But she has at least ... spoken against communalism which has raised its head once again because of determined stand by the BJP and the VHP to construct a Ram temple at the place where the Babari Masjid stood before demolition. None of the allies, except Mamata Benarjee from W. Bengal and Jayalalitha, have raised the voice against the BJP's insistence on bringing a law if the court decides in favour of Babari Masjid. One expected socialist George Fernandes to put up fight. But he has preferred to keep quiet, probably to prove the BJP  that he would rather be part of the government than be an opponent on the question of Mandir's construction. The BJP's allies have, in fact, pussy-footed around on this me-too-attitude long .enough and time has come to be frank and honest.                             (Source: The Radiance Viewsweekly, 5-11 July, 1998)
