08.05.87: Al-Karim Educational Trust (decides) to open a Medical college at Katihar.
08.03.88: Teaching of 1st year MBBS Course for the session 1987-88 started (in Patna).
29.12.89: Temporary affiliation granted by the L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga.
07.03.90: Chief Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav withholds the proposed notification by the Government regarding the permanent affiliation of the College as per order dated 5.3.90
25.09.90: Mufti Mohd. Sayeed, Home Minister, Government of India (writes a letter NO. 6299 dated 25.9.90 to the Chief Minister to expedite affiliation.
10.12.90: The Trust files petition before the ... Patna High Court for grant of permanent affiliation.
19.04.91: Judgement delivered, but due to difference of opinion matter referred to a third Judge. The matter went against the college, by majority decision.
20.04.91: College shifted from Patna to Katihar
18.05.92: Special leave petition filed by the Trust in the Supreme Court.
16.07.92: Special leave granted and the Supreme Court directs B.N. Mandal University Madhepura to conduct the examination of the students of Katihar Medical College.
07.08.92: Vice Chancellor (Malay Kumar Chatterjee) notified programme of examination and date of submission of fees and forms.
17.10.92: (The new) V.C. (Dr. Ram Badan Yadav) postpones the (examination).
24.10.92: Trust files contempt petition against the V.C
08.12.92: Supreme Court telephonically calls the VC to appear before the Court in person on 10.12.1992.
10.12.92: V.C. appears before the court in person and agrees to hold the 1st MBBS Examination from 14 December, 1992.
14.12.92: The 1st MBBS Examination of two batches held at Madhepura University campus, 110 km. (away) from Katihar.
16.12.92: The University Exam centre was shifted from Madhepura to Purnea College, Purnea, after the Chancellor intervenes.
03.01.93: V.C. issues notice to hold Practical Examination of the 1st MBBS at Darbhanga Medical College, Darbhanga, 300 km. away from Katihar.
07.01.93: Trust files a petition with the Supreme Court against the notification.
15.01.93: Supreme Court directs University to constitute an inspection team to see the feasibility of conducting practical examination at the College.
02.02.93: Practical Exam conducted at Katihar Medical College.
28.09.93: Supreme Court passes the following order 'since a lot of water has flown and many activities have already been undertaken for the grant of affiliation, we think it is too late in the day for the state Government to question the legality of the establishment of the College on the ground that prior permission was not obtained ... " and directs the State Government and the University to constitute an inspection team to inspect the college and submit the report"
04.11.93: Inspection team of Government of Bihar inspects College.
17.01.94: State Government declines to permit affiliation.
11.02.94: Trust files affidavit against the negative: e move.
16.04.94: Dr. A.R. Kidwai, Governor, inaugurates the Nawab Hospital in the college çampus.
25.11.94: Supreme Court directs Medical Council of India to constitute an inspection team for the College ... (and) to report independent assessment.
29.12.94: Medical Council of India inspects College and submits report highlighting certain deficiencies.
10.01.95: Supreme Court gives six weeks time to College to remove deficiencies.
09.03.95: Trust files affidavit regarding removal of deficiencies.
09.05.95: Supreme Court directs MCI to verify affidavit and give general inspection report ... for determination whether or not recommendation/affiliation is permissible.
27-28.6.95: Medical Council of India again inspects College and reports removal of deficiencies and points out certain new deficiencies.
22.08.95: Trust files affidavit showing removal of deficiencies.
27.02.96: Supreme Court delivered the Judgement: “that the affiliation is unnecessary delayed. The steps for the grant of affiliation to the appellant institution may now be expedited and we direct the respondent to issue necessary orders without loss of time.
02.04.96: University issues the notification of affiliation.
