The (RSS) seems inordinately fond of the word conspiracy, it is used willy-nilly to account for anything that happens in the country and for which they want to avoid responsibility ... The same conspiracy bug has hit Kalyan Singh - after all his background is steeped in RSS doctrine - but this time those accused of hatching the conspiracy are BJP and RSS leaders. In his new avatar as leader of the Rashtriya Kranti Party, Kalyan Singh finds himself isolated with only the backwards as a potential vote bank. The backward vote in many areas can be a decisive factor in elections, or it can eat into the votes of other parties, but alone, it cannot win elections. Kalyan Singh is well aware of this and has been trying to make new friends without too much success. He is also keen to wean away other castes and communities to his RKP, and to this end his latest targets are Muslims whom he is wooing with "conspiracy" theories.

Kalyan Singh is projecting himself as an innocent used by the BJP and RSS leaders to be the fall guy for the demolition of the Babari Masjid. If we are to believe Kalyan Singh's version, he had nothing to do with the planning or execution of the demolition; he was kept in the dark by the top BJP leaders who hatched the conspiracy.  How can he be believed? The Ram Mandir issue was part of the election plank on which he came to power in 1991; he accepted all the praise showered on him by the VHP as the strongman who had the courage to bring down the Babari Masjid; and in the post-92 elections he flaunted his role in the demolition to return to power? His parting with the BJP is no reason to forget his past ...
