Joint Statement On Outrage in J&K

The killing of ... Prankote ... presumably by some foreign militants on the night of April 17, must be condemned without reservation. It appears to us that the attack was a deliberate attempt to communalise the Kashmir struggle ...

The earlier killing ... in Wandhama ... in the Valley received condemnation even from militant leaders like Yasin Malik, Shabbir Shah and other Hurriyat leaders.  However, as long as militancy continues in Kashmir, such barbaric attempts to communalise the Kashmir  situation are bound to be made by foreign militants. While we have condemned the excesses repeatedly committed by the security forces in Kashmir, we have equally condemned the militancy in that state and have urged upon the leaders of the militants to call on their followers to abandon terrorism and adopt peaceful means to attain their objectives. If violence is voluntarily given up ... further communalisation of the Kashmir issue would stop and it would become much easier to solve the issue in a satisfactory manner.
