"The Muslim community is shocked and surprised by the clean chit given to the BJP by Shri Syed Abdullah Bukhari and indication of support in the coming election. His son Shri Ahmad Bukhari is reported to have stated that if the BJP adopts the "right approach" towards the Babari Masjid, "we" can also soften "our stand towards BJP in the present political circumstances". Ahmad Bukhari has also said that Muslims are disappointed with the performance of the secular parties which have taken their votes by harping on the fear of the BJP coming to power. These statements smack of political opportunism. Having supported practically all other parties one after the other, the Bukharis have now turned towards the one so far left out: the B.IP.
If it is wrong for secular parties to secure Muslim votes out of fear of the BJP, it is no less wrong for the BJP to secure Muslim votes out of their disappointment with the former
The Babari Masjid is not the only problem Muslim Indians face. Even then the Bukharis should first spell out what they consider to be the "proper stand", the BJP in their view should take on the question of restoration of Babari Masjid site to the Muslim community.
Finally, the real issue is Hinduisation, propagation of Hindutva in the name of Cultural Nationalism or "One Nation, One Culture". This implies nothing but steady assimilation of Muslim Indians in the Hindu fold and the erosion of their religious identity. This is why modification of the Secular Order, the introduction of the Common civil code, the substitution of Urdu by Sanskrit and introduction of Hindu rites in schools, deletion of Article 30 of the Constitution, relating to minority educational institutions, conversion of Masjids into Mandirs, deprivation of Muslims from representation in the political, administrative and economic systems are on the Sangh agenda and, therefore, the BJP agenda. Are these issues not important in the eyes of the Bukharis? Is the track record of the Sangh Parivar no longer relevant?
Whichever party they may vote for, the Muslim and other secular voters must see through the network of deception spread by Advani and Co. and their agents, avoid the emotional trap and support secular candidates."
