Hindus And Mohajirs Distinguished

A Letter in the Muslim, Karachi, 22 July, 1990

The Sindhi Hindus living in Sindh have been living there since time immemorial.

They have immensely contributed to the province of Sindh. Their cultural, economic and political contribution can be seen even now. The schools and colleges they have built, the hospitals, public rest houses, even water troughs for animals.

(What is) ... the difference between the Sindhi Hindus and the Mohajirs? Why one is accepted and the other is not? The reason is that the Sindhi Hindus respected the majority Sindhi Muslims from the very start. The Sindhi Hindus proudly assimilated with the Sindhi Muslims by speaking his language, by accepting his culture, poets and saints. And above all, they never looked down on the Sindhi Muslims. While the Mohajirs who came to Sindh, like the Arab's camel, looked down on the Sindhis, their culture, their language, even their dress. They could not forget India from where they were driven out, because of their unacceptable domineering behaviour. They wanted to ram Indian culture down the Sindhi throat. They wanted to force Urdu and Chooridar pyajamas.

The Sindhi Hindus do not need any certificate of loyalty or patriotism from the non-Sindhi Muslims, specially the Punjabis.
