"The newly formed Nationalist Congress Party has not yet made any policy statement but its leaders have repeatedly reiterated their 'equidistance' towards the BJP and the Congress.

One can appreciate its political compulsion in not categorising Congress with other secular parties and its reservation on any understanding with the party from which its leaders have just been expelled.

Yet, to equate the Congress which, all said and done, is a secular party with the BJP is unfortunate.

The BJP stands for Hindutva, sometimes called Hindu Nationalism and sometime Cultural Nationalism. It is nothing more than the political front of the RSS which is known for its chauvinistic outlook and which, in league with other members of the Sangh Parivar, is looked upon by all religious minorities as a hostile adversary.

Unity of secular parties alone can defeat the BJP. Any party which divides secular votes helps the BJP. Thus, one concludes that the newly formed party has a pro-BJP orientation and will directly or indirectly help the BJP in its goal of coming to power during and after the general election.

A party with such lack of ideological clarity deserves no support from the secular forces. The Insaf Morcha cautions the people, and particularly the Muslims, to beware of the unfolding conspiracy."
