Shahabuddin's Letter to VC, 3 Nov., 1998
You must have received the Resolution adopted by the All India Convention on the AMU Affairs on 25.10.1998 at New Delhi. I was not invited and I did not attend but the Convener has sent me a copy of the Resolution. I feel that the following matters needs your urgent consideration as the grievances/shortcomings appear to be genuine.
1. Election to the Students Union.
2. Election to fill vacant places in the Court, the Ex.Council and the Academic Council.
3. Regular meetings of the University bodies.
4. Sparse use of emergency power under 19(3) only in unavoidable circumstances and not to bypass or undercut the University bodies
5. Publication of inquiry reports and action thereon and publicity thereto.
6. Enquiry into allegations of corruption in construction contracts or admission or appointments, if a prima facie case is made out.
7. Separation of the post of PVC, Registrar, Controller of Examination, Controller of Admission and Director of Academic Programme.
8. Regularisation of all ad-hoc appointments of University teachers and non-teaching staff and filling up academic vacancies within a reasonable time, if possible, in anticipation of the vacancy
As a well-wisher of the University, I would request you to adopt a course of action and take all possible steps which would save the Campus from unnecessary turmoil.
