Citizens Committee for Secular Action: Report on Dharna in New Delhi

Babari Mosque was deliberately demolished on 6th December, 1992 by the forces unleashed by the Sangh Parivar ... This was a willful exercise in deceit for simultaneously (with assurances) clandestine planning was going on to attack and demolish the 'mosque'. Values of truth, Constitution, Rule of Law and tolerance were brushed aside. All this was done in the name of 'Hindutva'. But this event is a blot on Indian Culture.

5 years have passed but neither the guilty have been punished nor the victims have been paid due compensation ... 35 organisations organised a sit-in (Dharna) in New Delhi on Saturday, 6th December, 1997, 10 AM to 2 PM near the Supreme Court, under the auspices of the Citizens Committee For Secular Action to press the following demands :-

1. Punish the guilty involved in demolition and subsequent communal violence.

2. Pay adequate compensation to the riot victims.

3. Expedite the work of the Enquiry Commission appointed for probing the demolition and the riots following it
