On September 2, 1997 Father Christu Das, vice-principal and hostel warden of St. Joseph's School in Guhiajari near Dumka town in tribal-dominated south Bihar was stripped, disrobed and paraded naked by a mob of students in full view of government officials for having allegedly molested a 12-year-old resident student of class VII, Sakal Hansda on August 30 ... But missionaries in the state, claiming that the complaint was merely a ploy to malign local Christians were outraged at the alleged connivance of local officials with the rioteers and demanded a judicial enquiry ... Both the school and the detained missionary are held in high regard by many locals who do not believe the (allegation) to be true.
