"The VHP has announced plan for launching a Yatra between Jaipur and Ayodhya to mobilise support for the construction of the proposed Ram Janambhoomi Mandir. The ostensible purpose is the ceremonial transfer of architectural elements for the proposed Mandir model and to set up the Mandir initially on its own land in Karsevakpuram in Ayodhya. This Yatra is reminiscent of the Shila Yatra of 1989.
It is obvious that whatever the ostensible purpose, the real purpose is to generate public pressure on the Government to permit, or at least not to interfere with, the construction of the Mandir on the Babari Masjid site. Otherwise, no one prevents the Parishad from transporting the pillars etc. to Ayodhya, ‘as they have been doing.
The Yatra and the rehearsal of the temple construction are bound to vitiate the social environment and prepare the ground for yet another violation of the law of the land which is the off-repeated public objective of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad construction of the proposed Mandir on the Babari Masjid site in defiance of the Supreme Court Order".
The Central and State Governments concerned are duty bound to take due note of the real purpose and its legal implications and social impact.
