BJP-RSS Role in Anti-Sikh Riots, 1984

Sonia Gandhi's apology over the 1984 riots resulted in three Delhi heavyweights being denied the party ticket for the Lok Sabha elections, 1998. It was, however, not Congressmen alone who took revenge for Indira Gandhi's assassination. The BJP and RSS's workers were not far behind. Cases of arson, rioting and attempt to murder were registered against several BJP-RSS workers at the Sriniwas Puri police station. In this police station alone 14 FIRs were registered in connection with the 1984 riots. Majority of these cases were registered against BJP-RSS workers during the period 1992-94.

Interesting, among 49 people, who were arrested and later chargesheeted, about a half were BJP workers ... All these workers arrested in connection with the 1984 riots and later released on bail.

Ram Kumar Jain, who has been named in FIR No. 315/92 dated June 18, 1992 is a prominent leader. He was charged with rioting, dacoity and attempt to murder.

His residence at Hari Nagar Ashram was reportedly one of the election offices of A.B. Vajpayee when he fought the Lok Sabha elections in 1980.

Jain was the president of the Jain Mahasabha, Ashram area and his name figures in four different FIRs.

In another case, FIR No. 446/93 dated August 4, 1993, Mr. Hardyal Singh Sahani, a resident of Hari Nagar Ashram charged that he had lost his entire property including a cloth house on November 1, 1984.
