Sonia Gandhi on BJP
Describing the Bharatiya Janata Party and its associated political groupings as the "forces of hatred", Mrs. Sonia declared that India was once again threatened by the same forces which had demolished the Babari Masjid in 1992.
She recalled how just a month before he was assassinated, her husband, Rajiv Gandhi, had told her that "if ever an attempt was made to touch the Masjid, he would stand in front of it and they would have to kill him first. Such was the power of his dedication to a secular India.
She claimed that like all right-thinking Indians, she too was outraged and devastated when the Babari Masjid was demolished. "Our India is threatened today by the same forces which inflicted these wounds on us. We cannot realise our dreams if the energy of our people is wasted on senseless conflicts, communal tension and strife," she said.
"The forces of hatred have not only taken the lives of Mahatma Gandhi and two Prime Ministers, but also of thousands and thousands of our people. This must not continue to happen. India's march towards progress must be guided by reason and compassion", she declared.
