Annual Haj Conference, 9 July, 1998 Resolution (Extracts)

 

Haj Act:

(a) ... That Government of India should immediately amend the Haj Committee Act in the ccming Session of the Parliament ... on priority basis.

(b) ... That till the enactment of the new Act, the present Haj Committee should be allowed to work and the re-constitution of the new Haj Committee should be done in accordance with the new Act only.

Deployment of Staff on Haj Duty:

(i)              That a contingent of six administrative, Medicat and para-medical staff should be deployed for each Haj flight (to travel) witl the pilgrims ... stay with those pilgrims in Makka, Mauinah, Mina, Arafat and Muzdaiifah ...

(ii)            That the .. staff may be selected by the State Hay Committees keeping in view the linguistic and cultural requirements in mind and recommended to the Ministry of External Affairs.

Allotment of Flight and Accommodation:

(i) ... That the task of allotmnent of botn flight and buildings should be assigned to Haj Committee

(ii) ... That the allotment of accommodation should be done on state-wise basis.

Haj Committee's Offices at Makkah and Madinah:

.. That the Government should allow the Haj Committee to ... establish its offices at Makkah and Madinah.

Baggage: ... That the next Haj, no excess baggage beyond 45 kgs. will be aliowed to be carried by Haj charter flights.

Transport: ... That for Haj 1999 only B-747 aircrafts sheuld be hired by Air India. However ... the Haj

Committee ... may arrange DC10 or L1011 aircrafts, only when B-747 aircrafts are not available.

Air Fare: ... That the Government ... retain Rs. 12,000/- as the air fare for Haj 1999.

Accommodation: ... That the accommodation for Haj 1999 be arranged as follows:

In Makkah:

Category -I: Upto 600 meters from the outer periphery SR 1800/- of Haram Sharif (only new buildings with all facilities)

Category-II:Upto 1000 meters from outer periphery SR 1235/- of Haram Sharif (Only 800 meters and on reduced rates beyond 800 to 1000 meters)

At Madinah: ... Single category.

Office Premises for Central Haj Committee:

(i) That Ministry of External Affairs immediately provide suitable office premises to Haj Committee in Delhi.

(ii) That Government provide land to Central Haj .Committee for the construction of a Haj House in Delhi to cater to the needs of the pilgrims of entire northern India embarking from Delhi.

Orientation:

... That State Haj Committees convene a series of Orientation Conferences on Provincial and District levels to educate the pilgrims about the Haj and Haj arrangements ... That Haj Committee should prepare a useful documentary film on this subject along with the other literature.
