On a call given by the All India Milli Council, representatives of Muslim community from various states gathered in Delhi on Sunday, January 18 to take stock of the existing political situation in the backdrop of the ensuing election for the Lok Sabha. After detailed discussion and in-depth analysis it was observed that India today stands at a critical juncture where not just the Muslims but the whole nation is confronted with the issue of the basic structure of the country whether it will be a land of aggressive communalism and fascism, or would take to the road of democracy, religious neutrality and equality.
It is unfortunate that mutual wrangling among the secular forces, on the one hand, the well-knit organization, adherence to the ideology and deep planning of the communal elements on the other, have aggravated the situation. The Sangh Parivar through clever use of the media and propaganda technique is creating an artificial atmosphere in a bid to capture power to achieve its cherished nefarious designs.
Realizing the potential of Muslim votes the BJP and its communal allies have embarked in a campaign of wooing Muslim voters .... The Milli Council calls upon the Muslims not to get carried away by the ... propaganda nor to get disheartened but to gird up their loins and contribute their mite to put India on the track of democracy, social justice and religious neutrality ... The Council calls upon all the forces believing in democracy to sink their differences and rising above partisan considerations, unite and defeat the fascist forces.
The Milli Council notes with concern that Muslims representation in Parliament and Legislative Assemblies is steadily on the decline ... The secular parties should give thought to this phenomenon ..
The Milli Council appeals to all Muslims ... to treat it as their national duty to lead every voter, male and female, to the polling booths and have their votes cast.
