All India Educational Movement: Third Annual General Meeting


 

The Third Annual General Meeting of the All India Educational Movement was held on 12.3.2000 at New Delhi. The following attended:

The Chairman, in his address, confessed that the expectations with which (they) had established AIEM had unfortunately not materialized. We have, he exhorted to start a new chapter and redouble our efforts.

The General Secretary reported that AIEM has been registered under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 on 3.11.1999. The Newsletter has been published regularly.

It was resolved that the Statement of accounts for 1999-2000 presented by the General Secretary was adopted. The budget for 2000-2001 was adopted as below:

The University shall provide for instruction in all branches of Vedic learning and practices including Darshan, Agam Tantra, Itihas, Puranas, Upvedas and Gyan-Vigyan ...

The Sunni Cultural Centre, Calicut

The Sunni Cultural Centre (Markaz-us Thaqafa-tis Sunniyya) is situated at Karanthur, 14 kms off Calicut city, the nerve centre of Malabar (established) in 1978 ... The Markaz comprises of Arabic College, Hifzul Qur'an Centre, Post-graduate Islamic Study Centre, L.P. & U.P. Schools, Secondary Madrasa, a residential English-medium school, printing press, Computer and Typewriting Institute and an Orphanage ..

One of the major ventures of the Markaz is the orphanage for boys under 15, which was opened in 1980 (with the) capacity (of) more than 900 boys ... An investment is made on behalf of each inmate by the Centre in a business venture with funds donated by the public. The profit is shared by the inmates only. On completion of their education and vocational training such as electronics, computer, printing, tailoring and carpentry, inmates get their invested amount with profits ... to start their own ventures ... An orphanage for poor girls was also opened recently.

Over 200 students are (learning to recite the Quran) ... More than 700 students are studying at the Shari'ah College (for) the award of 'Moulvi Fadil Thaqafi, They are engaged by various organizations for the propagation of Islam. The Islamic Research Centre and Library are other ... facilities at the Markaz.

One of the largest mosques in Kerala, Masjidul Hamily, is situated in the campus (with capacity of) 5500. The Markaz's budget comes to Rs.3.5 million monthly ... which comes from (donors) in India and abroad (and) the commercial complex built at the centre of Calicut ...

The advisory role of the Centre is acceptable to Sunnis who constitute 90 per cent of the Muslim

population in Kerala ... The Markaz has attained a special place in the field of Islamic studies and scholastic pursuits in Kerala.

The credit ... goes to the reputed scholar Shaikh Aboobakar Musliar, known as Kanthapuram, who is a charismatic leader of the Sunnis of Kerala ... (Source: The Milli Gazette, 1-15 June, 2000)

AICTE Call for New Institutions and Courses

All India Council for Technical Education, I.G. Sports Complex, I.P. Estate, New Delhi - 110 002 has called for applications by 10 August, 2000 from registered Trust/ Society, Universities, State Government etc. for establishment of new technical institutions in academic year 2001-2002/2000-2003 and introduction of new courses and/or variation in the approved intake capacity in academic year 2001/2002 Prescribed forms maybe obtained from the AICTE.
